Course structure

This 30-credit module leading to the Independent Prescribing qualification runs across 26 weeks.

There are five broad themes encompassed through the curriculum:

  • Introduction to the module

  • The journey of prescribing

  • Developing your prescribing skills

  • Holistic prescribing

  • Scope of practice and continuing professional development.

Within these themes, there will be 10 three-hour sessions of online live virtual classrooms. There are accompanying directed learning activities that need to be completed to support and develop learning.

There will be two additional in-person clinical study days, that will enable students to practice their clinical skills, history taking and consultation skills with tutor and peer feedback.

Students are working in practice, in settings that facilitate prescribing learning during the module. Learning in class and through directed activities works synergistically with learning in practice.

How will you study

  • Learning materials All required learning materials are provided online, reflecting modern working practices and minimising our environmental impact. Print on demand versions are available for students with specific learning needs.
